Winning for Students and School Support Staff
Two years ago SEIU 284 sent a message to the Legislature—students’ zip codes
should not determine the quality of their education. For the first time in over a
decade, the Legislature put enough money on the perpupil formula to at least
keep up with inflation and made advancements to make the funding more equitable.
This year we can do it again. The state has a $1.9 billion dollar surplus. The question
is what the Legislature should do with it: re-invest in education and make school
funding more fair, or give large tax breaks to the wealthiest Minnesotans and
corporate special interests.
