Your Pension is Under Attack!!
On Monday, March 14th 2011 the GOP Senate released a plan to make public school employees contribute 3% more to their pension plan, while reducing the amount the school contributes to the pension plan by 3%. The GOP is selling this plan as a way to save the state money, but this simply is a tax on the people who serve our students. For a school employee making $30,000 a year this will be a $900 reduction in take home pay.
The GOP is feeling emboldened by the work of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. They think they can attack public school employees, while protecting the corporate interests of their campaign contributors.

School employees currently contribute 6.25% of their salary and the school district matches with 6.25%. This legislation would make employees pay 9.25% and school districts 3.25%. The average PERA member earns less than $1,000 a month in retirement. Our pension plan is strong and our benefits have been paid with our money.
