Strong Voice For Quality Child Care!

Since 2005, Minnesota’s family child care providers have worked with SEIU to improve conditions in their industry and win adequate support for their important work with Minnesota kids.
SEIU Kids First/Child Care Providers United members are untied to win a voice for child care and early education professionals, adequate reimbursement rates, access to affordable healthcare and a say for providers in policy and regulations.

Early childhood care and education has proven to be one of the most cost effective means of preparing our children for success in school and life. Professional home child care providers play a vital role in preparing these children. But, we face many challenges:
➢ A fractured system riddled with inconsistencies and varying interpretations of rules, policies and procedures
➢ Instability and insecurity
➢ Changing expectations of parents, and regulators and interest groups
➢ Unfunded mandates and expectations for quality standards
➢ Lack of adequate investment and support for our industry and its role in our communities
Our goals:
-
Access to health insurance that is affordable
-
Uniform interpretation of rules, policies and procedures.
-
Due process and fair play for providers
-
A workable reliable substitute system
-
Adequate and on-going professional development training and
education
-
Adequate public investment and base subsidy rates to insure that
quality is affordable and all providers can meet standards and prepare
our young children for school.
-
The right to choose our own representatives and have a strong voice
in our profession.
-
A fair market for parents and providers
-
A stable workforce of professional providers that families can
count on.
